The Bambach Saddle Seat is designed to promote
optimal seated posture in the human spine. A person sitting on a
Saddle Seat automatically assumes the position that produces least
stress for muscles, ligaments and joints, thus relieving stress on
the lumbar discs and spine because the pelvis is properly
positioned and stabilised. The pelvis is central and critical to
correct spinal position because of the way it is attached to the
spine by muscles and ligaments. Its position actually controls the
curvature of the spine, and this, in turn, is pivotal to how much
stress is induced on the spine when someone is seated.
The Bambach Saddle Seat is comfortable, and it
provides a wide range of adjustments to help the individual find
the most natural, comfortable sitting position. With the Saddle
Seat, feet are able to have floor contact, the weight of the legs
can be taken through the feet and the feet used to mobilise the
whole body, allowing easy movement around a workstation. The
Saddle Seat permits the pelvis to be held securely in its natural
position so that, when leaning forward to work, the lean is from
the hips and not the waist.
Mary
Gale designed the award winning seat, combining her years of
experience as an occupational therapist, horse rider and riding
teacher to solve the problem of how to achieve correct posture
while sitting at a task. Together with three colleagues, Mary
researched studies on posture worldwide. The findings supported
her theory that a person's spine is held in its natural curve with
less stress when seated in a saddle. This prompted her to design a
seat, based on the design of a saddle, for everyday use in the
work place as well as for use with disabled people.
The benefits of the Saddle Seat have been
validated around the world, even hailed (by some professionals at
the University of Vermont) as the most revolutionary change in
seating seen in a century.
In 1998 The Bambach Saddle Seat won two major
awards in the U.S.A., the first being The Adex award for Ergonomic
Task Seating, and the second a Silver Award at NeoCon for Design
Excellence for Desk/Workstation Task Chairs.

The Bambach Saddle Seat
with Back
The Bambach Saddle Seat is shaped like a
saddle to enable the body to maintain ideal posture when
sitting. With the Saddle Seat there is no need for lumbar
support because the correct lumbar curve is maintained
naturally rather than artificially. The seat provides all
the adjustments to allow the sitter to find a
"natural" spinal position. The back rest on the
seat is optional being used purely as a "rest"
and adjusts for height and angle. Ideal for an office task
seat.
